Camille Daunno - Artist, Teacher & Mother

Camille Daunno is a professional artist & teacher with a career spanning over 40 years.  During

this time, she has worked with various different mediums, held positions at several highly regarded institutions & freelanced with some of the biggest names in the creative arts.

 

Her titles include: Textile Designer, Illustrator, Botanical Floral Designer, Fashion Illustrator, Silk Painter & Designer, Fiber Artist, Crafter, University Adjunct Professor & High School Art Teacher.

 

Her formal art education started with a BFA in Fine Art and Education (K-12, Art Education) from Caldwell University & a Masters in Textile Design from F.I.T. and Parsons, NYC.  Her concentrated studies and training then extended into Fashion Illustration (F.I.T.), Botanical Illustration (New York Botanical Gardens), Felting & Fiber Art (Brooklyn Textile Center), Illustration (Society of Illustrators, NYC), Katazome and Shibori Silk Painting & Fabric Design (The Newark Museum of Art, The Art School at Old Church & The Montclair Art Museum), Chinese Brush Painting (Visual Arts Center of New Jersey) & Classic Oil Painting (Parsons, The New School, NYC).

 

Her creative nature also lead her to take part in numerous elective class courses offered at museums around the globe.  She received a full art scholarship from The Damini Art Foundation in Venice, Italy to further her studies. She also won a prestigious Gold Key from the National Scholastic Art Awards and her work has been recognized in various competitions & shows throughout her career. 

 

Professionally, she freelanced with a Textile Rep. and worked in a Design Studio in the East Village, NYC for 10 years while simultaneously working towards her M.A. at Parsons School of Design, The New School. 

 

Selected career highlights include: 

 

-Hand painted fabrics for Donna Karen, Carol Little, Randolph Duke, Sissi Siska & in various fabric houses and boutiques in Soho, NYC 

 

-Textile Design work for Waverly, Schumacher and several other NYC based Textile companies

 

-Art Direction for the NJ State Opera's Advertising for 7 years (including Opening Night Posters & various Fundraising work, as well as collaboration with Leroy Neiman for The Traviata Opera Ball)

 

-Fashion Illustration work for New Jersey Star Ledger, NYC Kelita Sportswear & numerous fashion posters for Tressard Fabrics & Wall Coverings in the D&D Building in NYC

 

Later in her career, she worked as an Adjunct Professor teaching Textiles for 5 years at William Patterson University & Montclair State University.  She then taught High School Art for 16 years at Villa Walsh Academy in Morristown, NJ while simultaneously leading Art instruction at multiple Art Studios & Schools in Montclair, Cedar Grove & Whippany, New Jersey. 

 

One of her most cherished experiences was working with the University of Milan in Pompeii, Italy on an archaeological dig.  While there, she sketched all recovered artifacts to be logged and archived for the site.

Presently, she continues to freelance and teach classes & workshops in her art studio in Asheville, North Carolina.  She was recently featured in the Asheville based publication "50+ Living"  highlighting her body of work and career accomplishments. 

 

As a seasoned craftsmen & teacher with vast experience, she finds that sharing is what she does best.  She cultivates her students' interests and challenges their abilities to give them gifts that will last a lifetime.
